Joy Of Johnstone. BOOK
Keith Johnstone was unconventional. His observations and philosophy redefined approaches to theatrical improvisation. Keith’s work is built upon breaking rules, learning from one’s mistakes and a belief in every individual’s unique worth and creativity, He encouraged students to be average, to be obvious, to take risks and embrace failure. Bring your curiosity, playfulness, and mischief as we dive into classic Keith Johnstone exercises and unleash spontaneity, embrace the obvious and be present in the moment.
Do Scenes Get Notes! BOOK
There are valuable insights one can learn from receiving an outside perspective. A note that helps you question and reflect is useful. Without feedback improvisors can grow anxious in uncertainty and lack of direction. This workshop focuses on constructive honest feedback relevant to the scene and skill level of the student. Notes will focus on skill and narrative technique, stage craft and needs of individual players. The aim is to shine a light on areas to work on.
Get out of your head and play!
Stop thinking, start playing! Patti’s playful style was hugely influential on the birth of Hoopla.
Date: Monday 29th September 2025.
Time: 6pm - 9pm
The plays the thing with this company of Bard players.
My last day on this tour will be spent in the company of Working Improv Theatre and the workshop opportunity they are creating. Interested? Contact them.

Mind the Gap - Classroom to the Stage
Improvisation is spontaneous play fuelled by acceptance and support. When we step from the classroom to stage we shift from playing as the aim, to using spontaneous play as a tool to develop stories to entertain an audience. This means developing an awareness of what we are doing and the impact it has on our partners and the work.
Notes or feedback is an essential part of learning. Learning how to give great notes is essential in being able to support, inspire and guide players in their learning process.

Our Play—a rare and riveting collaboration between two international improv titans, Patti Stiles and Joe Bill, both featured instructors. This is more than just a show—it’s an unscripted symphony of connection, contrast, and creative risk. There’s no script, no safety net—just two master improvisers building a world together in real time, inviting the audience into a one-of-a-kind experience that is raw, fearless, and deeply human.

This one day workshop with Patt Stiles will explore her philosophy of improvisation – that we should not be constrained by the ‘so-called’ rules of improvisation but should instead approach work courageously and authentically.
